Case study - Metropolitan Housing Trust

The Metropolitan Housing Trust (MHT) has been working in association with Capital Growth to develop food-growing spaces for residents to grow their own fruit and vegetables.
The project has resulted in numerous positive impacts. By receiving training, volunteer growers have an improved understanding of growing and eating healthy food, as well as developing skills that can result in employment opportunities. It has also acted as a catalyst for community spirit, fostering a greater sense of belonging and achievement.
Children have also been engaged by the growing spaces and partnerships have been forged with local primary schools to promote environmental awareness.
With funding received from Capital Growth and the Big Lottery's Local Food programme, the aim is for the project to be a sustainable one with resident groups, supported by volunteers, responsible for managing the growing spaces.
