Right to Grow takes root in Bury
Food growing should be a right, not a privilege; Bury council agrees.
We’re thrilled to share the news that the Right to Grow initiative has officially launched in Bury, Greater Manchester, becoming the sixth council across the UK to adopt the scheme.
This groundbreaking motion gives local communities the right to access publicly-owned land for growing fresh food, helping to green our public spaces, improve mental and physical health, and boost biodiversity.
One of the biggest barriers for new growers has always been access to land. But that’s starting to change. Thanks to a collaboration between Incredible Edible Prestwich, the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, and Bury local authorities, a new food-growing map has been developed. This map highlights existing and potential growing spaces across Bury, making it easier than ever for people to get involved and start planting.
