Fantastic Fungi

Neither plant nor animal, fungi have gained a lot of attention in recent years as vital components in the ecosystem, not to mention being delicious to eat! In this workshop, we’ll take a look at some of the ways you can grow mushrooms at home – and check in on the different mushroom-growing experiments we’ve been doing at the growing project. You’ll also discover some novel and exciting ways in which fungi are being put to use!

Design your kitchen garden

Home grown produce is not only tastier and healthier but, when your plot is well and truly thriving, it can even reduce your grocery bills. The ability to harvest new potatoes while they are still expensive in the shops, harvest difficult-to-buy delicacies like sprout tops or have a constant supply of salads and herbs through the summer, is a satisfaction that comes from growing your own.

From cleaning and purifying the air, helping us breathe well, to relaxing and re-charging our minds from home-working stresses, houseplants are magical!

10-week Gardening Fundamentals evening course with EcoLocal

We have an exciting new gardening course at EcoLocal. Our RHS qualified and award-winning Horticultural tutor has developed a 10-week classroom-based evening course called ‘Gardening Fundamentals’ that takes you through the full range of gardening activities, from looking after and improving soil to pruning, propagation, design and keeping plants healthy. This new course will run on a Thursday evening between 7 and 9pm for 10 consecutive weeks between 22nd January and 26th March 2026.

Winter pruning of fruit trees

If you are new to pruning, or not feeling very confident, join us on this popular, hands-on winter pruning workshop to find out how to successfully prune your trees. – Prune spur and tip bearing apples and pears – Regenerate old trees – Improve tree health – Encourage fruiting – Use and maintain pruning tools
