For the whole month of March, Capital Growth is featuring Hackney School of Food as part of its Spotlight Garden programme

As part of this programme, they will be hosting an open day on Saturday 26 March from 10.30am to 1.30pm.

The open day is a chance to find out more about this inspiring project (set up by LEAP Federation of Schools and Chefs in Schools) which delivers growing and cooking lessons to hundreds of Hackney pupils every year, deepening their connection with food and where it comes from as well as helping them to make healthier choices. Not to mention providing a haven for nature and wildlife in the city.

Programme for the day:

Head Food Educator, Tom, and Head Grower, Lidka, look forward to opening their garden gates and inviting the local community to get stuck in with the following fun activities:

  • Drop-in wholemeal soda bread workshop (which you can enjoy with seasonal soup made with produce from the gardens)
  • Seed sowing and seasonal planting tips (with your very own pot to take away)
  • Creating bird feeders, bee houses & insect hotels

The team will also be selling their popular garden chutneys, rosemary salts and seed packs on the day.

Timings:

Drop in anytime from 10.30am to 1.30pm for a chance to take part in the open day activities.
