Want to grow your own food but only have window sills, a balcony, patio, or rooftop?

At this practical workshop you will learn everything you need to start a successful garden in containers including:

  • The best veg, herbs and fruit to grow in small spaces.
  • How much sun different crops need - including the best choices for less sunny spaces.
  • What size of container to use and what compost to fill it with.
  • How to feed and water your plants in containers.
  • How to maintain, healthy pest free plants using organic methods.

During the workshop you’ll sow some microgreens and plant up some herbs to take home for your container garden.

Trainer bio

Mark Ridsdill Smith founded Vertical Veg in 2010 after discovering how growing food in the middle of the city changed his life. He grew £900 of food on his balcony and window sills in one year, and was able to eat fresh home grown food nearly every day for most of the year. Through his Vertical Veg blog, Facebook Page and Instagram, he aims to demystify growing and make it accessible  and affordable to anyone. He is also on a mission to highlight the wellbeing and community benefits of growing at home - and how it can help green our cities. Mark is author of the award winning book, the Vertical Veg Guide to Container Gardening, hailed as the “most comprehensive guide on this subject”. He delivers workshops online and across the UK, and has appeared on National TV, radio and written for the Guardian.

This event is free with access to toilets and sheltered indoor space if needed. Tea, coffee and biscuits will also be offered to attendees during the session break.

To attend, you must register via The Royal Parks ticket balloting system for the chance to win a free ticket. Once you have entered the ballot, you will find out whether you have been successful or not via email a week before the session date. Good luck!

Please head over to The Royal Parks event page here to register before 10am on the 22nd of June.
