Time to celebrate our Urban Harvest

Join us between 18-27 September for Urban Harvest Online; 10 days of activities, events, workshops (and snail races) for urban growers and community gardens.

This year Capital Growth’s annual harvest festival is going online. Kicking off on the 18th September, with Food for Resilience, a transatlantic webinar with Green Thumbs New York and Toronto Urban Food Growers, we are inviting urban food growers and community gardeners from across the UK to celebrate all things community food growing.  Whether you’re after some botanical drawing, want to be inspired by growers from across the pond or fancy your chances at the virtual produce show, we’ve got it covered.

This annual Urban Harvest event shines a spotlight on the amazing work of community food gardens and welcomes Londoners to join in. This year the programme moves online, giving more people a chance to get involved from the comfort of their own home or garden.

Full programme

Following a growing interest in growing your own during the pandemic, with a surge in allotment demand and sales of veg seeds at an all time high we are seeing an urban growing revival.

"New gardens are springing up , people growing at home like never before and community gardens growing to donate produce to people who need it the most, as we’ve seen through our Community Harvest  says Fiona McAllister, Capital Growth’s coordinator.

Our launch event on Friday 18th September from 3pm BST will share lessons across the pond on how gardens and urban farms can respond to the Covid crisis and build resilience. Or show off your marrows, at our first ever virtual harvest show on Sunday 20th September with Nadia El-Fakhri and her team at Cordwainers Grow – brace yourselves for the live snail races!

 Other events include:

  • London Digital Harvest Festival with Social Farms and Gardens
  • Age-Friendly Gardening with Capital Growth, Hackney Herbal & Ageing Better
  • Empowering Communities Through Nature with Tayshan Hayden-Smith
  • Drawing from Nature Workshop with Cordwainers Grow

The programme includes events led by other organisations including Social Farms and Gardens, the Orchard Project and Grow Your Own Playground and celebrates the rich diversity of gardens and growers in our networks. Throughout the festival we will also showcase urban gardens and food growers who’ve taken part in the Community Harvest initiative, growing food to donate to their local communities, which is funded by the A-Team foundation.  We thope hese stories will inspire other gardens to build more connections and solidarity in their communities.

Join us for part or all of the Urban Harvest Online festival. For full details of the programme please visit our Urban Harvest Online webpage. #UrbanHarvestonline
