EcoLocal one day workshop: Creating a beautiful garden that stands up to the challenges of climate change is no small feat. With everything from scorching summers to floods in winter, we need our garden borders to be resilient as well as stunning all year round. So, how do we create a border that not only survives but thrives? Led by our RHS qualified tutor, you’ll learn: ‘successional’ planting techniques, soil improvement, plant choice, pest and disease problems.

Growers' training: soil health and composting

Soil is much more than just dirt! Soil health is one of the most fundamental aspects of growing food crops. At the Vine Road Community Growing Project, we make our own compost to feed the soil and follow a no-dig approach to help protect our soil structure and cultivate the soil ecology. In this session we will look at how to cultivate healthy soil, as well as explore the ins and outs of making compost.

Our LGBTQ+ growing group is a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for members of the LGBTQ+ community to grow together. We welcome anyone - new to gardening or experienced growers! All tools and equipment will be provided, and there is someone on hand to guide the session. The group takes place on the 3rd Saturday of every month. It is free to attend, but please book via Eventbrite.

Practical Organic Gardening course (Level 2)

Practical Organic Gardening is a Level 2 course, designed by Sydenham Garden and accredited by the Open College Network (OCN). The 10-month course runs weekly on Thursdays, from 5th Feb – 11th Dec 2025. It is open to adult learners with some experience in gardening, who would like to develop their understanding of plants, soil and sustainable gardening techniques. Places will be prioritised for those living with a mental and/or physical health issue.

We have an exciting new gardening course at EcoLocal. Our RHS qualified and award-winning Horticultural tutor has developed a 10-week classroom-based evening course called ‘Gardening Fundamentals’ that takes you through the full range of gardening activities, from looking after and improving soil to pruning, propagation, design and keeping plants healthy. This new course will run on a Wednesday evening between 7 and 9pm for 10 consecutive weeks between 12th February and 16th April 2025.
